What a fun way to celebrate a birthday with friends! The kids will love getting their hands messy with clay, creating something completely unique, and taking home a special keepsake from the day. Each child can personalise their creation with their own design, making every piece different. It’s a fabulous mix of creativity, fun and hands-on play to keep everyone entertained. We also include a few party games such as limbo and musical statues to keep the energy going!
The cost is $35 per person with a minimum charge for 12 people. Maximum party size is 28 children. TO BOOK, PLEASE TEXT SALLY ON 0439 709 492. For more information read below.
‘Hazy Tales’ Studio hosts private ceramic children’s parties with exclusive use of the studio for your group. Set amongst gum trees, our stylish, light-filled studio features floor-to-ceiling windows and polished concrete floors. We are tucked away in Drysdale on the Bellarine Peninsula, just 20 minutes from Geelong.
When the children arrive, they will be shown some examples for inspiration before learning how to create a bowl from clay and transform it into an animal, creature or decorative piece. They will then have approximately 20 minutes for party food, followed by around 30 minutes painting their creations. We also play a few party games such as Musical Statues and limbo, and you are very welcome to bring a Pass the Parcel if you wish. We finish the party with the birthday cake. Parties run for two hours. After the party, all pottery pieces are fully dried, bisque fired, glazed and high fired in our studio. Finished pieces are usually ready to collect approximately six weeks after your event.
We can discuss any finer details with you before the party. Please arrive no more than 20 minutes before your party start time. We have a kitchen with an oven, plus a small amount of freezer space if you would like to bring an ice cream cake. We provide reusable plates and cups for the number of children attending the party, helping to keep rubbish to a minimum. If you prefer to bring your own disposable plates and cups, we simply ask that you take any rubbish away with you at the end of the party. Please bring your own food. Our oven is available to use. Popular party food choices include party pies, sausage rolls, chicken tenders, spring rolls, mini pita pizzas, sausages, hot dogs, fruit, sandwiches and wraps. Some families also bring sushi, wrap or sandwich platters ordered from Coles or Woolworths.
We are an eco-friendly studio and have invested in solar power. Providing reusable plates and cups is one of the small ways we help reduce waste going to landfill.
Handcraft amazing keepsakes from this special day with friends & family. A memorable day with a unique blend & memories to cherish.

REVIEWS:
“We hosted our son’s birthday party at Hazy Tales! It was awesome. The kids loved the pottery activities and they all ended up with a super cool memento to take home. Highly recommend!”
“Thank you so much Sally for being such a great host recently at my daughter’s 9th birthday party. You were so patient with the kids and explained everything in simple terms so they were able to make their animal pinch pots independently. Although, nothing was too much trouble for you and you didn’t hesitate to help anyone who needed a bit of extra guidance. The studio is such a beautiful space and I’m looking forward to coming back without the kids to enjoy some of your adult classes. Thanks again, I would definitely recommend your parties to anyone looking for something a little bit different”.
“After tossing up a few options for my daugther’s birthday party, Hazy Tales Ceramics made it an easy decision. The moment we stepped into the studio and experienced the friendliness, then saw all the pottery options … the only difficult decision after that was deciding what type of pottery to make!! The studio is fantastic and Sally was very organised. The girls got just the right amount of guidance so that they could really be free to make what they wanted. My daughter and her friends thoroughly enjoyed it. When I asked Miss 11 how she would describe her party herself, she said – * jam packed * there was a wonderful choice of tools * I loved what we actually did and the way we did it * No one’s look like anyone else’s and we all have an amazing end product It was a very free, yet structured party and I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Thank you Sally”.

THE PROCESS FOR YOUR POTTERY
Pottery work is dried out anywhere from a few days for jewellery and decorations to a few weeks for items with thicker areas. If the work is not fully dried out so it is bone dry then items can explode.
Once fully dried all pieces are loaded into the kiln then bisque fired to 1000 degrees celsius, which takes 21 hours. After this the kiln has to cool down so that the door can be opened safely without anything exploding due to the thermal shock. This takes about another 42 hours.
Work is removed and in between other firings these pieces are all glazed individually by hand. The base to each piece is individually wiped down to ensure no glaze is on the base as this would stick to the kiln shelf and destroy both the work and shelf. Work is then glaze fired. This takes 10 hours and then a further 20 hours to cool down so the door can be opened. Earthenware and stoneware clay has to be fired separately to temperatures of 1100 and 1200 respectively.
A little note about Ceramics & Firing
Part of the magic of working with clay is that every piece is completely unique. Ceramics is also a process with many variables, and although we take great care with every piece, occasionally unexpected things can happen during drying, glazing or kiln firing.
Cracking, warping, glaze variations or, very occasionally, a piece breaking during firing can occur even when clay has been prepared and handled correctly. This is an inherent part of the ceramics process and is uncommon, but it is something to be aware of when booking a pottery experience.
If an unexpected firing issue does occur, you are welcome to come back and remake the affected piece at no additional cost, or we can provide clay for you to remake it at home and return it to us for glazing and firing.
Your workshop fee covers the complete creative experience, including studio time, instruction, clay and materials, glazing and firing, as well as the workshop experience.
Thank you for your understanding and for embracing the unique nature of handmade ceramics.
